What we can do for you.

CriMINAL

Criminal charges are serious charges, and require serious representation. If you are charged with a criminal offense, you need to have an attorney who not only knows the law, but understands how the laws can work for, and against, you. Knowing how to handle a criminal case just isn’t enough. Knowing how to protect your rights is just a part of handling your case. Many times, just a few simple actions can make (or break) a criminal case outcome. And the outcome can impact your life for many years to come.

It is absolutely essential that your attorney knows how to skillfully navigate through the legal process. This means working through the facts of your case and effectively working with the other people involved (the prosecutors, judge, witnesses, and law enforcement officers) so that key opportunities are not missed. Knowing exactly what to look for are skills that Ed Farrell has developed over the years. It’s his job to be sure that every helpful or harmful opportunity is handled in a way that’s best for you.

Criminal charges cover a wide range of areas, including:

  • Violent Crimes: Murder, Manslaughter and Homicide, Assault, Kidnapping , Physical Abuse and Domestic Violence

  • Drug and Alcohol Crimes: Possession, sale, manufacturing and delivery of controlled substances, and Drunk Driving (OWI) 1st, 2nd and 3rd

  • Sex Crimes: Assault, Abuse and Incest, Child Molestation, Internet Pornography, Rape (forced and date rape) and Public Indecency, or Lewd Acts

  • Theft Crimes: Robbery, Shoplifting and Larceny by Conversion

  • White Collar Crimes: Embezzlement, Extortion and Money Laundering and Organized Crime

Traffic tickets

Speeding tickets, improper plates, commercial violations, driving while license suspended, improper passing, failure to yield, traffic signal violations, leaving the scene of an accident… many circumstances can result in being pulled over by a local policing authority.

Traffic violations can range from mere annoyances to serious, costly violations. And many people are not aware that certain traffic violations carry additional sanctions in the State of Michigan. ‘Driver responsibility fees’ are often charged in addition to the fines and costs you will pay at court.

In some instances, a person who operates a vehicle while his or her license is suspended or revoked risks having new charges added which will prevent being able to get a license for many years to come. How new charges are handled can make (or break) your ability to request a license hearing appeal. Your driving record needs to be carefully reviewed before simply taking a plea in any situation, as it could have long-term effects when (or if) you are licensed again.

With regard to alcohol-related charges, it is never a good idea to get behind the wheel of a car when you’ve had alcohol in any amount. However, did you know that even the use of mouth fresheners or some foods can register an elevated blood alcohol level? Being able to sift through these subtle influences is an integral part of how The Farrell Firm skillfully handles your case. We know what questions to ask, and what to look for when defending you.

License Appeal Hearing

The hallmark service of The Farrell Firm is driver’s license restoration. We have an outstanding success rate at either the hearing or circuit court appeal level. Your driving record is carefully reviewed as there is more than one approach to take when seeking restoration of your license. From start to finish, our attorneys and staff work closely with you to craft an appeal basis that not only meets, but exceeds the minimum requirements established by the State of Michigan. Our success rate in restoration of your privileges is unparalleled. No case is too difficult, and when people think “impossible” … we say “Let’s do this!”

Circuit Court Appeal

The road to restoring your driving privileges has two routes. The first is the hearing held at the Secretary of State – Administrative Hearings Division. Our clients frequently have their driving privileges completed at this level. However, in more complex cases where there is a denial by the Secretary of State, another route can be taken. An appeal can be made to the Circuit Court to overturn State’s decision. Just remember – a “no” from the Secretary of State doesn’t necessarily mean “never”.

I met Mr. Farrell over 12 yrs. ago. He has handled many cases for me, from simple traffic tickets to legal matters with some rental homes I own. He is someone who doesn’t sugarcoat things and just tells you what you need to know, unlike some other attorneys I’ve spoken with in the past. I have always been satisfied with Mr. Farrell representing me. And not only just Mr. Farrell, but his office staff as well, collectively they are very personable, knowledgeable, and kept me informed on all my matters. I will continue to use The Farrell Firm for any matters that may arise in the future. I recommend anyone seeking legal help, give this office a call.
